Michele L. McCarroll, PhD brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in clinical research, medical education, and health systems science. Throughout her career, she has advanced research capacity, fostered interprofessional collaboration, and developed innovative educational programs that strengthen healthcare workforce development and improve patient outcomes.
Most recently, her previous leadership roles include North Texas Division Director, Chief Research Officer and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) and Program Director for the Fellowship in Academic Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University. At PNWU, she championed interprofessional education and practice and co-developed the nationally recognized Master Preceptor Program, supported by a $1.95 million grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Dr. McCarroll has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has secured competitive research funding, including collaborative work with NASA to advance the measurement of clinical judgment. In addition, her work has been featured on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and she has received national recognition for her contributions, including a Special U.S. Congressional Recognition honoring her commitment to advancing innovation in healthcare. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Medical Education and Curricular Development.
She earned her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University and has held clinical, academic, and research leadership positions at several nationally recognized healthcare systems and universities, including the Cleveland Clinic Health System, the State University of New York at Buffalo, Summa Health, the University of Akron, and University Hospitals of Cleveland, Lake West Medical Center.
